GREENVILLE — The Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau has pledged to give up to $250,000 over the next 10 years in the effort to make the planned Delta Sportsplex Project a reality.
The money, however, will not be used for the actual construction of the complex.
The CVB has pledged up $25,000 annually to the project, but the funds will be used only on “print brochures and advertising to help in the fundraising effort,” said CVB Executive Director Wesley Smith.
“Each year the Sportsplex Board and the CVB Board will meet to make sure we’re making progress - that’s one of the stipulations,” said Smith.
The $20 million planned Sportsplex Project will be located on 95 acres, encompassing the current Legion Field. There will be several baseball, softball and soccer fields, along with educational facilities and ample parking.
It will be a big boost for the local economy, said Smith.
“It’ll be good for the city and county,” he said.
